Research project:

Perspectives of Early Intervention (EI) educators on children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

What I did: 

- Applied knowledge of Childhood Disorders & Disabilities 

- Conducted interviews with 4 EI educators from various EI centres around Singapore to learn about their perspectives on ASD in children 

- Presented important points of interview findings in a table format and compared the information with international literature (similarities and differences)

-  Proposed recommendations to address certain misconceptions and views from the interviewees

What I learnt:

- Support strategies to aid children with ASD in learning and development (i.e. communication, social skills) 

- Conducting extensive and reliable research (i.e. sources like Google books, government websites)

- Critical analysis of interview data against international research 

Floor Plan:

An Early Childhood Development Centre for children from 2 - 36 months old

What I did: 

- Applied knowledge of Effective Learning Environment for Young Children

- Planned and designed the physical environment and materials (i.e. toys, furniture) to be placed in an infant and toddler classroom 

What I learnt:

- Designing safe and comfortable classroom environments to support the holistic development of children from birth till 6 years old 

- Knowledge of child safe toys, materials that can be used in the classroom for young age groups

- Aligning the layout and resources in the classroom to the guiding principles under the Early Years Development Framework (EYDF) 

Fact sheet:

What I did: 

- Applied knowledge of Working with The Exceptional Childlearn to develop a simple-to-understand FAQ fact sheet for parents / caregivers

- Conducted in-depth research to learn more about ASD outside what was taught in school

- Provided accurate information substantiated with research evidence (i.e. characteristics, symptoms, difficulties and suggestions for families to support their children with ASD)

What I learnt:

- Research skills 

- Diagnosis, challenges and support strategies of children with  ASD

- Succinct summaries of key research information 

Critical writing: 

Should abortion be illegal?

What I did: 

- Enjoyed writing as this is an issue I am passionate about 

- Conducted secondary research with a variety of sources (i.e. newspaper articles, journal articles, hardcopy books)

- Presented 2 view points of the essay question, backing up my stands with research evidence  

What I learnt:

- The issue of abortion in some countries (i.e. abortion ban in Alabama) 

- Statistics, reasons and taboos towards abortion 

- APA citing and referencing
